Travelling impressions

Foreword

I have to inform the reader that the following rows represent my personal impressions about the places I've visited, and that is why the subjective opinions cannot be avoided. I rely on the reader's understanding concerning the scarce of the information or my imperfect literary style. I am fully aware that my writing abilities can express in the best case my analytical way of thinking.

In generally it is difficult to say which was the place that you liked the most, and that you would be always excited to come again. The hard part consists in the fact that, when you arrive somewhere, and especially when you arrive there for the first time, you have a different soul attitude, different expectations induced from outside or inside factors (like personal lectures, someone else accounts or pretentious and sometimes artificial descriptions of travel agencies). It can be similar of what is called in mathematics different "initial conditions". That is why when someone asks me this question I cannot give a clear answer because sometimes it is necessary to see the same place at least two times at different period in time to make a better opinion.

It is not my intention to present you destinations like important cities such as London, Paris, Amsterdam, Prague, Lisbon and so on, which are certainly worth to visit especially due to their unique monuments, museums and so on, but due to the large tourist afflux, sometimes the cosmopolitan aspect of these cities prevails. Maybe this is an overrated opinion, but I personally prefer more quiet places that offer to the traveler more than landscapes, architectural styles and sightseeing's, namely a fragrance of that place. That is in my opinion the most interesting aspect concerning the traveling: to discover "that thing" that makes a place unique.

Few thoughts ...

Porto is one of the cities that are worth to visit. It was mid September (several years ago) when I arrived in Porto. I've came to Porto by train from Aveiro (a relatively small city situated at about 1 hour distance from Porto) paying just several euros for the return ticket at that time. Coming by the train, the city appears suddenly to the traveler view disclosing a breath taking picture. The effect is due to the position of the city on a slope of a mountain. The vicinity of the ocean and the Douro River contribute at the same manner at this effect. Arriving at final destination (Sao Bento train station), after passing a tunnel that cross a mountain, you will discover a city with a scent of early nineteen century. I recommend you to take a bus for a tour of the city (as it is the case for the many cities, with the ticket for the sightseeing bus you can travel with public transportation on the same day, besides you can get off the bus and visit something that you are interested in, and you can continue your tour later with next buses).

For someone looking for an active holiday I recommend Garmish-Partenkirchen. It is a very nice mountain resort in Bavaria with unique landscapes. The resort lies at the foot of the Zugspitze (the highest peak from German Alps, 2962 m). This small city is the perfect place for the ones who practice winter sports but also for the ones who enjoy hiking or just walking in the nature the rest of the year. From here you can easily reach to the Linderhof castle or even Neuschwainstein castle. Don't miss a trip to the Partnach gorge (Partnachklamm) situated near to the Olympic stadium.

Strasbourg is another interesting place to see. What is interesting for Strasbourg, and at the same time that gives a special uniqueness for this city, is the combination of German architecture and French atmosphere. A walk around the Cathedral surroundings or a cup of coffee in one of the restaurants of the "Petit France" district can be a good reason to reach the same conclusion as me.

If you like exotic experiences and you like doing shopping, a possible destination can be Hong Kong. Me personally I don't. I suggest you not to travel in summer and to read carefully the travel recommendations posted on the internet concerning the shopping.

As recommendation I suggest that, when you plan to travel somewhere, it is better (in fact in my opinion is mandatory) to have some information about the place you are going to visit. This will give you all the data to take advantage of all time you'll spent there and will save you from situation when you miss interesting place worth seeing. You can have the best tips for traveling from people that have visited that place. An important resource is the internet (trip advice, tourist information etc.). I will update the content of the page as soon as I will have interesting information about other places, till then enjoy your trips.
