Plasma Surface Engineering Laboratory is part of the Plasma Physics and Nuclear Fusion Department in the National Institute for Laser, Plasma and Radiation Physics Bucharest-Magurele. The group is mainly involved in research projects funded by the Romanian Ministry of Education and Research (Exploratory Research Projects and LAPLAS 3 programs) and by the European Commission under FP7 program (EURATOM and CRAFT). The group has also contracts with industrial companies on commercial basis. We have a large expertise (processes and equipment) in the plasma technologies for surface treatments such as plasma nitriding and thin films deposition by PVD technique. A new technology (Combined Magnetron Sputtering and Ion Implantation – CMSII) has been developed and successfully applied for tungsten coating of carbon based materials for the first wall in the nuclear fusion devices. Specific plasma equipment has been manufactured under our supervision and exported to customers from UK, France, Zimbabwe, etc. The group is certified in accordance with ISO 2001 and ISO 14001 standards.
